We spoke briefly to a lady within Martinez, a butcher shop, who stressed the importance of the market as it provided a safe space for people to work, find goods and services and feel at home.  

She told us that the market was a melting pot of cultures which allowed people to relax, something that is greatly missing now that the market is shut.

People did not have to worry about child care either as kids would run through the halls playing while the parents could work.

While it is unlikely that the Wards Corner building will be similar to what it was before, but she expressed her desire to have the market ‘exactly the same’ as it was before because of the important role it played with the Seven Sisters community.
