Lisbeth, the owner of this hair salon was displaced to the other side of Seven Sisters when Wards Corner was shut down.

She spoke fondly of the market as she shared memories of the atmosphere and the people. ‘Latin Village’, as she called it, was a refuge for all people no matter their nationality. While the market was dominated by Colombians, she informed us of the wide range of cultures that thrived within the space; people from Peru and Venezuela to Ghana and Iran giving the space a warm and comforting atmosphere.

No one was turned away from the market, she stresses, flicking through her phone to show us photos of activities and celebrations they would hold within the space. If you were searching for employment, a warm meal or simply a chat in your home language, the Latin Village would be there to help.

Despite her fond memories and her desire to see the market reopened, she struggles to be involved in the campaign as she has to look after her sons and her business.
